Wesleyan has a long history of alumni serving in the Peace Corps, and this year we heard from three who’ve completed service in different fields and regions of the world. Sophia Navarette Zur ’19 is currently a Fulbright Scholar in her native Mexico where she is creating a documentary about the resilience strategies of Mexican women during COVID 19. She had served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala as a Youth in Development Coordinator, but her service was cut short by COVID. She had hoped to join us, but was unable due to poor cell connection at the research site she was at during our event.
Ameen Beydoun ’11 and Andrea Weires ’19 however were both able to join us and share a bit about their stories. Read more about the conversation here in Mike Mavredakis’ article in The Wesleyan Connection.
